Autumn is one of the best times to lay turf — the ground is still warm, rainfall does most of the watering for you, and it has the whole winter to establish before summer. 🌿 If you’ve been thinking about replacing a worn-out lawn, now is a much better time than spring when everyone else is booking at once.

We transformed a completely overgrown back garden last month — 15 years of neglect, compacted soil, cracked paving and a shed that was beyond saving. 🏡 Six days later: new lawn, raised sleeper beds, repointed patio and clean boundary fencing. The customer said they hadn’t been in the garden properly for years.

Waterlogged lawns after rain are usually a drainage problem rather than a grass problem. Compacted subsoil or poor grading means water sits on the surface instead of draining away. 💧 Hollow-tining and top-dressing can resolve mild cases; more severe situations may need a soakaway or French drain.

If you have block paving or a stone patio, it’s worth having it re-sanded and sealed every three to four years. The kiln-dried sand between the joints washes out over time, allowing weeds to take hold and the blocks to shift. 🧱 A re-sand and seal takes a day and extends the life of the surface significantly.
