Boiler servicing is always best done before the heating season starts — ideally in August or September. 🔧 Engineers are far busier from October onwards, wait times are longer, and the last thing you want is a boiler fault on the coldest night of the year. Booking a service now also keeps your manufacturer warranty valid.

A customer called us with a boiler that had stopped firing for hot water but was still heating the radiators. The fault turned out to be a diverter valve that had seized — a common issue on combi boilers over eight years old. ⚙ New valve fitted, tested and signed off within two hours.

If your radiators are cold at the top but warm at the bottom, you’ve got air trapped in the system — and bleeding them is a simple fix you can usually do yourself with a radiator key. If they’re cold at the bottom but warm at the top, that’s sludge build-up, which needs a power flush. Knowing the difference saves you an unnecessary call-out.

Carbon monoxide detectors should be tested monthly and replaced every seven years — the sensor degrades over time even if the unit still appears to be working. 🔍 Fit one on every floor that has a gas appliance, and make sure it carries the EN 50291 kitemark. It’s a legal requirement in rental properties in England.
